Back in 90s, Internet explorer dominated the whole online world. It had more than 60% of user shares. Internet explorer was the only and best option for the users after Netscape and Firefox browsers. Then a new era has started which we called as “The Information age” more people were thriving to the internet. So internet usage and demand has reached sky high. People were started to concern about the website loading speed. In spite of Internet explorer’s effort to fulfill the user needs, a new game changer “Google Chrome” has joined the browser war.

Google Chrome was released in 2008 which was not so popular at that time. Google has continued to ship chrome with new features and security updates which started to pull the internet users to its side. Today 2019, chrome owns 64.3% of online user shares, but Internet explorer shares dropped to below 5%. Tremendous growth in internet now opens up new way of online business as well as online security vulnerabilities. Today Firefox holds 4.49% of overall user shares and keeps growing. Chrome supports mostly all kind of new technologies without any glitch and loads all page without any break from the day one of it’s release. No wonder why chrome has the biggest user shares of all time. But below are the some of the reasons why I prefer Firefox rather than other browsers recently.

Firefox has done an extra-ordinary job for disabling auto-video play and ad pop ups by a feature called “Block Auto-play”. Also user gets the complete control of the blocked pop up alerts. Another feature that really impressed me is “Social tracking protection”. Have you ever wonder the information that you have searched in other websites say air ticket booking appears in your social sites? Mostly social sites track your browser activity for its business purpose without user permission which is unacceptable. Firefox handled this by restricting social media blockers with it’s inbuilt settings.

One of my favorite feature is “Integrated breach alerts”. What’s this? Let’s say you have saved your username and password for a website. Suppose if the website data has been compromised (hacked), Firefox will automatically give you an alert to change the password. The same feature available in chrome but we need to install a chrome extension. One more and all time favorite especially for today’s generation and developers is “dark mode”. Firefox provides you a different way of look and feel for those who using dark modes especially to night owls!! Apart from the above features, Firefox has improved a lot of technical engineering side for enhancing webpage performance and security.

Some browser profits may be based on ads but the upside is, it will identify the user needs effectively, but some are not. The data which is available online can’t be taken for granted. There must always be a balance between information and privacy. At the end of the day, we users should decide our needs.
